The Anatomy of a Mega World Series
2:00 PM – Coaches Meeting
Alexandria is located in Central Lousiana….or as the Locals call it CENLA….and one of it’s new claims to fame is the home of the First ever “Mega” world series for Dixie Softball. Starting off on Friday with a collective coaches meeting at 2pm inside the Rapides Parish Coliseum…where the host league of Alexandria welcomed all and laid down a few ground rules…..”No Coolers, No Pets, No being mean” and where the commissioners of each age group broke the 100 some strong group into their respective ages for a little one on one time to discuss rules, and answering any questions about game play.
Phase One, Complete.
4:00 PM – Umpire Meeting
Nothing ensures a smooth tournament like a professional group of umpires, and all the commissioners were on hand to talk with each age division’s officials. Expectations were set, and questions were answered….
Phase two, in the books.
6:00 PM – Opening Ceremonies
The time came for 1000+ players age 5-18 to walk into a room where the spotlight was on them, and I can personally say that Alexandria Dixie Softball spared no expense in introducing the teams….I’ll go so far as to say Taylor Swift would have been jealous of the introductions provided to the teams, and as the host teams entered the arena beads rained over the teams in true Louisiana fashion…I am sure I speak on behalf of all the teams when I say…Alexandria THANK YOU!
Phase Three, a great success!
Alexandria Dixie Youth, The City of Alexandria, Rapides Parish Residents….The players and Families thank you again for an awesome experience. Your 2 years of planning and effort were noticed…the support of Dixie Softball, and the creation of so many memories will go down in the record books as one for the ages.
Hopkins County Texas….your time is approaching. Make the best of it!
With upmost respect,
